Alastair Holberton founded Interchange in 1990 with a focus on new markets in the former Soviet Union.
Opening of branches in Czechoslovakia and Hungary.
Exclusive contract with the Hungarian Railways and with Kepcsarnok in Budapest.

Appointment of 1,000 money transfer sub-agents, including Hungary’s largest bank.
Acquisition of American Express’ retail operations in Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland.
Start of airport operations with Budapest Ferihegy International Airport.
Acquisition of the Bank of Ireland’s shareholding.

Won concessions at major airports, including Vienna, Nice, Budapest, Orlando and Prague.
Acquisition of Reisebank’s stakes in Austria from Travelex.
Start of operations in Southern Africa, in 4 countries plus a joint venture with Zambia Post.
Rapid expansion in Poland, with Gdańsk Airport and many regional airports and train stations.
Entry into a vending machine partnership with EuroNet.
The group becomes one of the largest currency exchange companies in Europe.
