In May, 2020, Interchange Africa entered into a joint venture to manage the money transfer services of the Zambian Postal Services Corporation (‘Zampost’), with a view to also providing foreign exchange services at Livingstone International and Kenneth Kaunda International airports.
The first openings were rolled-out swiftly, as the need for reliable, fast, and competitive money transfers through the widest and most convenient network, was more important than ever during the early months of the Covid-19 Pandemic, when, in many cases, this service was the only means available to migrants to provide indispensable financial support to their families, hence a key driver of grassroots financial inclusion.
With 23 locations already fully operational by the beginning of 2021, the plan is for an additional 20 to be added by the end of March, 2021 and a total of 100 by the end of the year. All locations are offering the Western Union Money Transfer service, with MoneyGram due to be added by the end of March.
